Ellis Talks Show & Prove Performance, Concept Behind Upcoming Album, “E.O.E.”

Last Friday on #BodegaRadio, Baltimore lyricist, Ellis discussed his performance the night before at Show & Prove, Brooklyn Bodega’s competition series where the winner receives the opportunity to perform live at the 2011 Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. “We fucked up last night,” says Ellis.

“I’m not going to throw nobody under the bus. At the end of the day, it falls on me so I take responsibility. I could’ve put a halt to what was going on but I kept it going. But at the end of the day it was a blessing to have that many people there to actually rock to the music. In your mind you’re thinking like, ‘Damn,’ because you know how you intend for stuff to go and it didn’t go that way. But then when you have people tell you, ‘Aw, man, we love the music,’ it’s crazy.”

Ellis also discussed his upcoming project, E.O.E. featuring lead single, “Done Deal” and the process necessary when pushing an album. “[“Done Deal’s”] not really a good interpretation of what the E.O.E will sound like,” he says. “To keep it all the way one-hundred, we put the BluRay E LP out a year ago. Most people think, ‘Alright, I got a dope album. This should be a wrap. I’m on.’ Nah, you need some money. So we got on grind mode. Finally got some money behind the project so we shot five videos in two days, like thirty-three straight hours.”

He continued: “The E.O.E. album is a lot more depth to the album. There’s a theme behind it, the movie The Education Of Sonny Carson. So, I saw that movie a couple month’s ago, and Legin — who I work with closely — he just basically found the soundtrack to the Sonny Carson and he straight raped it. The music was coming so crazy to where I just went straight into that album. It’s real conceptual. Every song has a concept. Every song is tied together by a scene from the movie but it’s also autobiographical to my life.”
