(New York City) May 17, 2010 – This summer “Chillin On Da Corner” has a whole new meaning. Beyond Influencing Da Hood announces its first ever outdoor film screening in Bedstuy, Brooklyn. Introduction to the film series begins Tuesday May 25, 2010 with a special screening of award winning film “Inside A Change” directed by BET Awards video director of the year nominee Rik Cordero; HBO Short Film “Shades of Brooklyn Vol 1″ Directed by Sunshowah Films and hosted by actor Ephraim “Fetti” Benton. Followed by a meet and greet with the cast and crew of the films.

“BlackandBrownNews.com (BBN) is specifically interested in media partnership opportunities with organizations that are bringing fresh, new ideas and programs to engage communities that are traditionally overlooked, underserved or altogether ignored,” said Sharon Toomer, Managing Editor of BlackandBrownNews.com.  “With the loss of programs, events and entertainment this summer, many members – young, old and in between – of the Bedford Stuyvesant and even citywide community will benefit from this outdoor film series presented by Chillin On Da Corner and Beyond.  This is a great idea and event for BBN to partner with!”

In most urban areas chilling on the corner has a negative connotation, but BIDH wanted take to that same phrase and apply it to something positive. According to BIDH cofounder Ephraim “Fetti” Benton “In an environment where inner city programs are constantly being cut, it is important for us to take responsibility of our own communities and give back”. BIDH is doing this by bringing Hollywood to their Hood. “Our community will get a chance to see great independent films they wouldn’t normally see because they’re not mainstream films and the filmmakers get introduced to a new fan base and a diversified audience for the future”. This film series will start conversations, open minds, inspire new film makers and bring out fellow supporters and role models within the community.

The invitation has been extended; so come out and view award winning films, listen to live music, and enjoy some great food while chilling on the corner.

The Official Summer Series Starting Tuesday Nights from July 6th – Aug 31st
2pm – 10:30pm (July 6th is a special event which will include a health fair.)

B.I.D.H. is a nonprofit community-based organization that was established in 1999 to bring vital opportunities to urban areas, help change the perception and minds of young minorities in Bed-Stuy & its surrounding areas.  Our Annual Boyz ‘n’ Da Hood BBQ was created in 1999 by a group of young men living in Tompkins Houses in Brooklyn as a way for us to give back to our community.  A group of about fifteen men annually pitched in their hard earned money, donated their time and efforts to feed the neighborhood kids, parents, friends and families free of charge. In 2006, the BBQ was moved to H. Von King Neighborhood Park to accompany the growth and to create more of a neutral setting to welcome more racial diversity, but still keep true to our original mission. We have many supporters that donate their time, effort and financial support in a great meaningful gesture that brings the community together in unity and look forward to the next level.
