MoMA Presents Gil Scott Heron's "New York Is Killing Me"

The lyrical influence to many emcees watched his “I’m New Here” single get a visual remix by Chris Cunningham of Bjork, Portishead and Aphex Twin fame.

Earlier this year, poet/musician/author Gil Scott Heron released I’m New Here on XL Recordings. The legendary lyricist, who has influenced Hip Hop emcees greatly, relied on soundbeds from Kanye West to illustrate his points, while a Mos Def remix to “New York Is Killing Me” later surfaced.

This past weekend, a “visual remix” companionvideo to Heron’s “New York Is Killing Me” opened at New York City Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The works was directed by Chris Cunningham, who has previously directed music videos for Bjork, Portishead and Aphex Twin.
